November is diabetes awareness month.
Here is a brief overview of type 2 diabetes.
Often times the symptoms can be so mild that they can go unnoticed. Common symptoms of type 2 diabetes:
*feeling very thirsty
*feeling very hungry
*cuts/bruises that are slow to heal
*tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands/feet
One of the easiest ways to now diagnose diabetes is with a A1c blood test. The A1c test measures your average blood glucose for the past 2 to 3 months. The advantages of being diagnosed this way are that you don't have to fast or drink anything prior to the test.
Research shows you can lower your risk for type 2 diabetes by 58% by:
*losing 7% of your body weight
*exercising moderately thirty minutes a day, five days a week

Here is a picture of her celebrating the chapter's 20th anniversary with her husband, George, daughter, Michelle, and son in law, Steven.
You will be missed, Mom Ruth!
